Reasonable Accommodations – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is First Polymer Training Skillnet’s approach to reasonable accommodations?
First Polymer Training Skillnet is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment. We aim to ensure that all learners, including those with additional needs, have equal access to learning and assessment opportunities through appropriate reasonable accommodations.
2. Who can apply for reasonable accommodations?
Learners with permanent or long-term conditions that may significantly affect their performance in assessments are eligible to apply.
3. On what grounds can an application be made?
Applications may be submitted for reasons including, but not limited to:
- Specific learning difficulties (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyspraxia)
- Hearing impairment
- Visual impairment
- Physical or medical conditions including Sensory difficulties
- Mental health or behavioural challenges
Each request is assessed individually.
4. What is the purpose of reasonable accommodations?
Reasonable accommodations are intended to reduce the impact of a disability or condition on assessment performance. They enable learners to demonstrate their true level of achievement while ensuring fairness. Accommodations are designed to support equal opportunity and do not provide an unfair advantage over other learners.
5. What types of accommodations may be available?
Depending on individual needs, supports may include:
- A reader or scribe
- Additional time to complete assessments
- A verbal explanation of exam structure before the assessment begins
- Enlarged examination papers and/ or increased font size, or a device with assistive technologies (e.g. large text, spoken text)
- Visual aids, ( these may include magnifiers or additional lighting)
- Modified exam formats to support learners (questions may be redesigned to include clearer language, fewer written instructions, and a greater use of visual elements such diagrams
- A sign language interpreter
- A separate examination room or alternative assessment location (where possible)
- The option to defer an assessment without penalty in exceptional compassionate circumstances
6. How do I apply for reasonable accommodations?
You should indicate your intention to apply on your Registration (Profile) Form. The Centre Co-Ordinator will then contact you by email with the appropriate application form. Alternatively you can contact our office directly by phone (090 6471223) or by email (info@firstpolymer.com ) and the application form will be sent to you.
7. When should I submit my application?
Completed application forms must be returned as early as possible by email to info@firstpolymer.com and no later than two weeks before the assessment date, to ensure sufficient time to put appropriate arrangements in place.
8. Is supporting documentation required?
Yes. All applications must be supported by relevant documentation, such as a current Educational Psychologist’s report.
9. How are decisions made?
Each request is considered on an individual basis. The Centre Manager makes the final decision regarding accommodations and will inform both the learner and the trainer confidentially.
10. Will my information be kept confidential?
Yes. All applications and supporting documentation are handled sensitively and confidentially throughout the process.
